Samuell Farrell Lions 2010 Youth of the Year Winner for Beecroft-Cheltenham Club and Jeff Bruce Principal Normanhurst Boys High School
The members of the Lions Club of Beecroft-Cheltenham, extended a warm and sincere welcome to our contestants, their families and friends, our judges and the representatives of the competing schools at the quest held at our club on Monday 15th of February.
We enjoyed an inspiring night to remember. Congratulations to our contestants for accepting the challenge of participating in this competition and we were priviledged to have enjoyed presentations from youth who will be our future leaders.
We also extend the Club’s gratitude to our judges for their role in the event and to the Club’s Youth of the Year Chairman, Dr Margaret Talbot.
The next step for Samuel will be the Region final which will be on Wednesday March 17 hosted by City of Ryde Club.
We wish Samuel every success and will be sure that we are there to support him and also to enjoy hearing Samuel and other young leaders present on the evening.
Youth of the Year 2009
Last year, Beecroft-Cheltenham’s 2008-2009 Youth of the Year winner, Thomas Maitland from Epping Boys High School, progressed through the Region, District to the State Final. Whilst he didn’t win, all our Club members were delighted to get to know this amazing young man and to support him every step of the way. We received the following letter from Tom thanking our Club for the experience.

Thomas Maitland from Epping Boys High School respresented Sydney (Lions District 201N5) at the 2008-09 State Final held at Maclean in northern NSW.
“I would like to formally thank the Beecroft Cheltenham Lions Club for the continuous support and sponsorship of me throughout my time in the Lions Youth of the Year Quest. The experience has taught me so much that I would not have learnt otherwise and developed skills which will be invaluable in my future.
“I am also so grateful to the members who gave up their own time to come to all of the YOTY rounds, and particularly those who travelled to Bankstown and Maclean. The advice, support and encouragement from those people really helped me progress through the competition.
“Through the competition I have been fortunate enough to meet some very interesting people, and myself and my family have been made to feel very welcome at all the events we have attended.
“It was a pleasure to participate in the Youth of the Year competition. That such an extensive effort is put into by Lions is a testament to the high calibre of the organisation.
“I hope I can be involved in more Lions activities in the coming months and years and again thank the Club as a whole for all the time and support given to me throughout the competition.”
The Lions Youth of the Year Quest is a community project designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership qualities in young Australians. More than 2,000 people compete in the Quest each year, with winners making their way through zone, region, district, state and national finals.
Here is a brief presentation introducing the program, for students.
